On August 9, a group of 15 colleagues and their friends from Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou came together at the Hong Kong Expressive Arts Therapy Service Centre, for a creative and heartwarming workshop on expressive arts. The session offered an opportunity to explore self-awareness, emotional expression, and deeper connections with others.
The workshop kicked off with an engaging introduction to the concept of expressive arts. The trainer explained the different forms it can take—visual arts, dance & movement, music, drama—and how these non-verbal methods can help us express our emotions more freely and authentically.

Participants then took part in a guided relaxation exercise using “EASY” cards. With eyes closed and focused breathing, they tuned into their physical sensations and used the cards to identify areas of discomfort and the emotions behind them. This activity encouraged open conversations with partners, helping everyone better understand and support one another.

Next came a fun and lighthearted challenge: drawing a “blind” portrait of a partner without looking at the paper. The results were both amusing and touching. Participants decorated their portraits with stickers, flowers, feathers, and other materials, adding personal flair and sparking meaningful discussions.

To wrap up, the trainer shared useful tips on how to respond with empathy when someone is experiencing negative emotions. These simple yet powerful techniques can help us care for those around us and prepare us for future community engagement.

The workshop provided a relaxed and joyful space for emotional exploration and creative expression, while also strengthening the bonds between colleagues and their loved ones.
