Further developing premium Champagne portfolio in Mainland China following two decades of success in Hong Kong.

Jebsen Group (Jebsen), a leading marketing and distribution organisation for premium products in the Greater China region, today announced its beverage business will start to represent premium brands Champagne Bollinger and Champagne Ayala in Mainland China, responding to the needs of the country’s rising number of Champagne drinkers.

Jebsen Fine Wines has reached an agreement with Société Jacques Bollinger to become their exclusive distributor for these brands across the Greater China markets. Bollinger is a long standing partner of Jebsen Fine Wines, which has been representing the iconic French brand in Hong Kong since starting the wine business over 20 years ago.

While the global Champagne market has recovered dramatically since the financial downturn in 2008, China still offers huge growth potential. According to the latest Drink Business’ Annual Champagne Report, 323 million bottles of Champagne were shipped worldwide in 2011, including more than 1.3 million bottles to China last year, a 19.4 per cent year-on-year increase. However, Champagne consumption in China is still lower than in other Asia-Pacific locations like Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia.

A key figure in the history of the Champagne region for over 180 years, Bollinger has been the Champagne of choice for the Royal Family of England, including for the marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana in 1981.

Meanwhile, Ayala is an haute couture Champagne brand founded in 1860 from the only French Champagne house with Latin roots. It employs a unique production process that adds only a low or no sugar dosage, making it a fresh, innovative addition to the Group’s Champagne portfolio.

"We have always been committed to providing consumers in Greater China with some of the best wines from around the world,” said Mr Gavin Jones, Director of Jebsen Fine Wines. “On top of broadening our wine portfolio with brands like Bollinger and Ayala, we will continue to find new ways to meet the growing demands of the Chinese market for premium wine brands.”
