Jebsen Marks A Hundred Years in China with Anniversary Celebrations

China business enjoys robust growth and now accounts for 60 percent of the Group’s revenues in East Asia.

Jebsen Group (Jebsen), a leading marketing and distribution organisation for premium products in the Greater China region, today celebrated over a hundred years of presence in China on the fifth anniversary of its establishment as a wholly-owned foreign enterprise (WOFE).

Since the transition from representative offices to a direct presence five years ago, Jebsen Consumer sales have doubled while Jebsen Industrial has become the market leader in a broad variety of industries. Jebsen announced it will expand the reach of its four strategic business units—Luxury, Industry, Beverage and Consumer—beyond the three major cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, where it already has a direct presence.

In addition, Jebsen will enlarge its workforce in Greater China to 2,000 employees within three years.  Jebsen also shared its results for the past five years and development plans in 2009 for the Consumer and Industrial business units, indicating the company’s confidence and commitment to the Chinese market. Currently, Jebsen’s business in China comprises 60 percent of the Group’s business in East Asia, and this number will continue to rise.

With strong support from the Group, the brands under Jebsen’s Consumer Business Unit have achieved solid results that demonstrate their commitment to providing more choice to consumers in China. Jebsen Consumer provides professional cameras and camera-related products of three brands -- Casio, Pentax and Rollei. Backed by Jebsen’s growth strategy, Jebsen Consumer currently works with 300 partners, covering 28 provinces and more than 50 cities in China, to expand beyond tier-one cities. Jebsen Consumer is devoted to developing a nationwide dealership network by 2011, which will reach 100 cities all over China. This will make Jebsen the top independent digital camera distributor in the country.

Meanwhile, the first-rate services Jebsen Consumer provides serve to continuously enrich brands and products, and to ensure they are successfully marketed. Following new agency agreements regarding Rollei and select Casio models, the expanding regional portfolio complements existing distribution while bringing Chinese consumers an increasingly enjoyable digital experience.

Jebsen Industrial is the market leader in China, and has provided industrial, scientific and technological equipment to a range of industrial sectors for the past five years. For example, it has cooperated with 15 European principals to offer a complete bakery line with high levels of production capacity worldwide.

Another example is the joint venture with Mitec in Dalian, which makes Jebsen Industrial the first and only foreign manufacturer in China producing balancers used in car engines. The joint venture plans to double production output by 2011, and increase its all-local staff proportionately.

 Jebsen Industrial is also bringing advanced technology and solutions to the coastal markets, from Shandong to Hainan, to help local enterprises generate electricity from renewable resources including animal waste, landfill gas and biogas. All of these efforts carried out by Jebsen Industrial are geared toward promoting development of new energy resources in China.

At today’s ceremony, Jebsen Group Director Denis Li said Jebsen will continue to focus on growing its Consumer and Industrial business units in China.
