Between October 29 and November 1, Jebsen Group took Project Morning Star deep into the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region for a third-phase site visit. Sixteen Jebsen volunteers travelled to Baise to learn more about local children’s eye health initiatives and deliver hands-on support to schools and communities, turning kindness into action and spreading light and hope.

Eye health is a vital part of our overall wellbeing and since 2011, Jebsen Group has partnered with Orbis International to champion eye health in China via Project Morning Star. Building on the success of its two previous five-year phases, the project’s third phase launched in 2021 – focusing on children and adolescents, in partnership with the Shanghai Xin’Ao Brightness Charity Foundation and Orbis.

From 2011 to the present day, the project has invested RMB 7 million, expanding from Shanghai to strengthen grassroots eye care networks in Ningxia, Yunnan and Guangxi. As of September 2025, the initiative has completed over 300,000 children’s vision screenings, provided 2,057 pairs of subsidised glasses, trained 471 eye care professionals and delivered eye health education to more than 440,000 residents.

Unlike collaborations in other regions, Phase III of Project Morning Star in Guangxi partners with maternal and children’s health hospitals, ensuring earlier and more systematic eye care for infants and children. Six project centres now operate in Baise, Longlin and Hechi, enhancing local paediatric eye services. Professor Wu Xixi from the Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine said, “This project has created an effective model for training doctors in grassroots maternal and children’s health hospitals, giving timely, high-quality and affordable eye care to youngsters and bringing hope to families.”

During the trip, volunteers visited clinics, learned how eye care services were built from scratch and gave support to rural schools in ethnic minority areas. They hosted eye health classes, assisted with vision screenings and led “Sports for Vision” outdoor activities, making eye care fun and accessible.

Over the past 14 years, Jebsen Group has invested more than RMB 19 million in Project Morning Star, with over 1,500 employee volunteers visiting underserved regions to make a lasting impact. From field visits to interactive sports days, the project’s commitment remains clear – to protect people’s eyesight and create brighter futures.
