Jebsen Motors, one of the world’s largest Porsche dealer groups, announced today that it has achieved full carbon neutrality at all its Greater China locations and Shanghai head office in 2022. This is the third year that Jebsen Motors has been certified carbon-neutral by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, after the company became China’s first carbon-neutral dealer group in 2021.

Earlier this year, Jebsen Motors and Shanghai Automotive Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SAAM) jointly conducted a comprehensive carbon inventory to gather statistics regarding 2022’s direct and indirect carbon emissions from Jebsen Motors’ locations and offices. This inventory was conducted in accordance with the latest ISO14064-1:2018 regulations and covered fuel usage, emissions, energy purchases, employee travel, vehicle maintenance materials, waste treatment and events. The final carbon inventory report showed that Jebsen Motors’ carbon emissions in 2022 came to 13,350 tonnes of CO2e, totalling nearly 5% less than in 2021.

In collaboration with the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, Jebsen Motors successfully offset its 2022 total emissions by supporting the Baotou Damao Ulan Ovoo Tianrun 49.5MW Wind Farm Project. This project, which is designed to generate wind power through the installation and operation of 33 wind turbines at Ulan Ovoo Village in Baotou City, is expected to deliver an average of nearly 110,000 MWh of electricity annually to North China’s power system.

Porsche has the ambition to make its value chain net carbon-neutral in 2030 including a net carbon-neutral use phase for future BEV models. As partners of Porsche for almost 70 years, Jebsen Motors will continue to actively work towards Porsche’s Strategy 2030. Mr Joachim Eberlein, Managing Director of Jebsen Motors, says: “In our strategy, we define sustainability as one of the areas that is most important to us; we want to grow economically while also acting responsibly. We believe that carbon reduction and carbon neutrality are the core elements of sustainable development.”

Jebsen Motors believes that merely buying credits to achieve carbon neutrality is incompatible with holistic low-carbon development. Thus, in recent years, all its newly built and revamped centres have adopted advanced energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. In 2022, its Porsche Centre Haining became the world’s first Porsche Centre to be awarded an LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum certification. Jebsen Motors also won the Environmental Initiatives Award at 2022’s SEAL Business Sustainability Awards, one of the company’s many achievements in leading a sustainable future for the industry.

Jebsen Motors actively integrates diverse sustainable development resources, collaborating with outstanding partners to identify and implement low-carbon solutions. Ms Ying Huang, Executive Director of Investment & Consulting Department of SAAM, comments: “SAAM is committed to providing customers with one-stop low-carbon green solutions to help enterprises achieve their dual carbon goals. These solutions include sustainable development, energy conservation, environmental protection, green energy, and a commitment towards a circular economy. Jebsen Motors is an industry role model for its sustainable development principles and practices.”

Jebsen Motors’ parent company Jebsen Group integrates economic, social and environmental considerations across all areas of its planning and operations. Since 2012, Jebsen Group has successfully achieved its carbon neutrality target by investing in environmental projects and purchasing carbon credits to offset its emissions, and the Group has now attained its carbon neutrality goals for ten consecutive years.
