On July 20, Jebsen Group hosted a special sports fun day at Porsche Centre Shenzhen Longhua in partnership with the international non-profit organisation Orbis. Twelve Jebsen volunteers and four customer volunteers were invited to accompany 15 visually impaired students and their families, with a total of more than 80 participants.
Many visually impaired families have more than one child and parents often find it difficult to participate in group activities with their children. Eleven siblings of visually impaired students were also invited to participate, allowing whole families to share the fun together. This was also the first time that Porsche owners were invited as volunteers for the day, giving their support for the visually impaired participants and promoting social inclusion.
The children signed in by graffitiing a Porsche car, unleashing their creativity through touch and embarking on a journey of automotive knowledge.
During this experience, the children learned about a car’s structure by listening to the Porsche 911’s engine and touching its steering wheel and tailfins, while also receiving tips on safe travel.
The day’s fun sports games were specially designed for visually impaired people. As well as the classic Giant Footsteps Challenge, Snack Delivery Relay Race and Land Curling Experience, there was also a new Rowing Machine Relay Challenge. Accompanied by the volunteers, the children were able to experience the joy of sports, gaining confidence and courage through these challenges.
We will continue to arrange more Sports for Vision activities in other cities soon – so stay tuned!
About Project Morning Star and “Sports for Vision”
Jebsen Group launched Project Morning Star in the Chinese mainland in 2011, supporting eye health and vision care in collaboration with the international non-profit organisation, Orbis. Project Morning Star’s third phase launched in 2021, continuing our commitment to enhancing children’s eye health and vision care and building on the success of our two previous five-year plans. Over the past two years, Project Morning Star has supported the building of seven children’s eye care sub-centres in Yunnan and Guangxi, provided eye screenings for more than 260,000 children, subsidised eye surgery for 35 children, subsidised prescription eyeglasses for 709 children, trained 325 eye care professionals and educated more than 260,000 local residents about children’s eye health.
In 2021, Jebsen Group hosted the first Visually Impaired Fun Sports Day at Project Morning Star Phase III’s launch ceremony.
