Inspiring HK Sports Foundation’s WELL DUNK! Girls Basketball Programme 2021-2022 kicked off this September. Jebsen Group, a founding sponsor of this pilot women’s basketball programme, is donating HK$130,000 to the Kai Ching Estate based team in this year.

Tackling the various problems that girls face when engaging with sports head-on, the WELL DUNK! Girls Basketball Programme provides comprehensive training and mentorship support to nurture girls’ confidence. The goal is to eliminate the perception that girls cannot play sports through long-term sports training, community activity and empowering them by partnering them with high-profile female mentors.

This year’s WELL DUNK! Girls Basketball Programme is the first basketball programme in Hong Kong that advocates for girls’ involvement in sports, while also offering mentorship sessions with leaders from across three specific sectors — sports, business and tech. Additionally, the programme offers girls the opportunity to play in “5 vs 5” friendly matches and participate in a range of social services with corporate volunteers.

The programme will last between eight to ten weeks with around 15 girls aged from 13 to 17 on each team. Each participant will receive a set of basketball gear including basketball shoes, a training jersey and a personalised competition jersey featuring the sponsor’s logo.

The WELL DUNK! Girls Basketball Programme is organised by Inspiring HK Sports Foundation; the Foundation is known for encouraging youngsters to participate in professional sports training, learning experience programmes and advocacy activities, with a mission to nurture youngsters’ development. They aim to provide a positive contribution to each child’s development while nurturing social mobility, inclusion, gender equality and the importance of a healthy lifestyle. Jebsen Group has sponsored Inspiring HK Sports Foundation since February 2020, launching a joint five-year partnership to support and promote long-term sports training programmes and grassroots sports development.

HK$130,000 from Jebsen’s overall donation will go towards sponsoring one of the teams this year; the other three pilot donors are UBS, Gaw Capital and Mayer Brown. This donation will be used for coaching, gear expenses, competitions and assessments to ensure the basketball team is operating smoothly.
