Jebsen Motors Achieves Carbon Neutrality For A Second Consecutive Year

Selected -1

Jebsen Motors, one of the world’s largest Porsche dealer groups, today announced that it has achieved full carbon neutrality in 2021 at all its Greater China locations and Shanghai head office. This is the second year that Jebsen Motors has been certified carbon-neutral by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, representing another major step towards leading a sustainable future for the industry.

Jebsen Motors and Shanghai Automotive Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SAAM) jointly conducted a comprehensive carbon inventory in the first half of 2022, gathering statistics on 2021’s direct and indirect carbon emissions from Jebsen Motors’ locations and offices. This inventory was conducted in accordance with the latest ISO14064-1:2018 regulations and covered fuel usage, emissions, energy purchases, employee travel, vehicle maintenance materials, waste treatment and events. The final carbon inventory report shows that Jebsen Motors’ carbon emissions in 2021 totalled 14,022 tonnes of CO2e.

This year, in collaboration with SAAM and the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange – China’s first environmental energy trading platform – Jebsen Motors has purchased voluntary emission reductions from the Hubei Pankou Hydropower Project in order to offset its 2021 total emissions and achieve carbon neutrality for the year. The hydropower project uses water from a local river to generate clean electricity, providing both skilled and unskilled jobs for locals while improving the local environment through reduced greenhouse gas emissions.

Jebsen Motors believes that simply buying credits to become carbon neutral is incompatible with its holistic low carbon development. It values the sustainable development of the economy, with a focus on ecology and society as a whole. In recent years, all its newly-built and revamped centres have adopted advanced energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. For example, Porsche Centre Haining is the world’s first LEED Platinum-accredited Porsche Centre and is estimated to consume 45% less energy per year than similarly-sized Porsche Centres without sustainable measures. This corresponds to an annual reduction in carbon emissions of nearly 50% and has been achieved by installing solar photovoltaic panels, rainwater recycling systems, roof gardens and other tools. In addition to these infrastructure modifications, other sustainability measures are also applied by all Jebsen Motors locations in their daily operations.

In March 2021, Porsche announced its goal of a CO2-neutral balance sheet by 2030. With this sustainability strategy in place, Porsche China launched a sustainability award for its dealers this year – encouraging China’s Porsche dealers and investors to actively engage with corporate social responsibility and carbon neutral projects.

“Jebsen Motors will actively work towards Porsche’s Strategy 2030,” Mr Joachim Eberlein, Managing Director of Jebsen Motors, said. “Our strategy & vision 2025 is embedded in our pursuit of economic growth while ensuring social inclusion and environmental protection. A series of sustainability programmes around this theme have already launched and have achieved positive results. Last year, we became China’s first carbon-neutral dealer group and moving forwards, all Jebsen Motors’ operations will continue to be carbon-neutral – achieving another milestone in sustainable development.”

Jebsen Motors actively integrates diverse sustainable development resources, collaborating with outstanding partners to identify and implement low-carbon solutions. Mr Zhimin Hong, Deputy General Manager of SAAM, commented, “SAAM is dedicated to providing its customers with a variety of green, low-carbon solutions that focus on energy conservation, environmental protection, green energy and the circular economy. Jebsen’s green philosophy and practices make it a role model for the auto dealer industry.”

Jebsen Motors’ parent company Jebsen Group integrates economic, social and environmental considerations across all areas of its planning and operations, in response to the Group’s sustainability strategy. Since 2012, Jebsen Group has achieved its carbon neutrality target by investing in environmental projects and purchasing carbon credits to offset its emissions. It will continue to actively contribute to the growth of Greater China through its pursuit of sustainable development.
