Jebsen Group (Jebsen), a leading marketing and distribution organisation for premium products in the Greater China region, is accelerating investment in its watch business to meet new demand particularly for the burgeoning female market.

Jebsen Watch, a division under the Group’s luxury business, expects to see watch sales rise over 200 per cent by 2013. Much of this growth will come from sales from the ladies collections. This October, a report released by Bain & Company shows watch sales are expected to grow by 18 per cent year-on-year in 2011, driven by self-purchasing women in emerging markets such as China.

Ms Gladys Leung has been recently appointed as the new General Manager for Jebsen Watch, bringing a better understanding of women’s buying motives to the division. One of her first tasks was to oversee the launch of the new Jasmine series exclusively for ladies from renowned luxury watch brand Raymond Weil. Jebsen Watch has signed Chinese celebrity Zhou Yun, together actor-director Jiang Wen, to endorse the brand for the next two years. Since hitting the stores, the Jasmine series has been enjoying brisk sales, an indication of the surging female appetite for premium watches.

Skagen Denmark, another brand in the portfolio for Mainland China, has also started aggressively marketing to the fairer gender. Its online campaign on the popular Sina Weibo, pairing the watches with the latest autumn and winter fashion, has attracted a steady following.

As part of its expansion, Jebsen Watch is doubling its point of sales to over 300 locations for its entire portfolio to cope with the expansion and further development of other brands like Porsche Design and Nomos. The division’s headcount is also expected to double by 2013.

Mr Mark Bishop, Group Director of Jebsen, said, “The market for ladies watches shows  great potential, so an increased focus in this market will help us fulfil our ambitious growth targets. As part of an organisation that has represented premium brands in Greater China for over 100 years, Jebsen Watch is committed to bringing more quality choice to watch lovers all over the region.”
