Jebsen Celebrates Five Years as a Wholly Foreign-Owned Enterprise in China

2009 investments to develop the Group’s China luxury business top RMB 100 million; China now accounts for 60 per cent of revenues in East Asia.

Jebsen Group (Jebsen), a leading marketing and distribution organisation for premium products in the Greater China region, today celebrated over a hundred years of presence in China on the fifth anniversary of its establishment as a wholly foreign-owned enterprise. In Shanghai the company also announced its RMB 100 million investment in the luxury sector this year.

Since the transition from representative offices to a direct presence five years ago, Jebsen’s growth in China has broadened beyond industrial products to encompass also consumer businesses. Moreover, Jebsen announced it will further expand the reach of its four strategic business units—Luxury, Industry, Beverage and Consumer—beyond the three major cities of Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou to boost its already extensive nation-wide distribution network.
 
In addition, Jebsen will enlarge its workforce in Greater China to 2,000 employees within three years.  Jebsen also shared its progress and development plans in the luxury goods industry in 2009, fully reflecting the company’s confidence and commitment to the Chinese market. Currently, Jebsen’s business in China comprises 60 per cent of the Group’s business in East Asia, and this number will continue to rise.

With strong support from the Group, Jebsen Marine, Jebsen Watch and Jebsen Motors under the Luxury Business Unit are actively engaged in the China market and have achieved solid results that demonstrate their commitment to consumers in China.

As China's largest Porsche distributor, Jebsen Motors is carrying out a major revamp to existing Porsche showrooms and workshops in China. Both the Beijing and Hangzhou showrooms have seen significant space increases before re-opening in August and October of this year, while the Hong Kong showroom and Porsche workshops in Hangzhou and Shanghai will all be moved to new and improved locations early next year.  In addition, Jebsen has launched Porsche’s  Panamera in Hong Kong on Sept 18 this year, while preparing for another high-profile introduction of this luxury car to the mainland China market.

Along with the booming motors business, the watch and marine businesses have also continued to rise. In June 2009, Jebsen Watch exclusively introduced Skagen Designs in China, and recently introduced Porsche Design luxury watches to China market. Meanwhile, Jebsen Marine added luxury yacht brand-Nautitech to its portfolio in mainland China and Hong Kong. 

At today’s ceremony, Jebsen Group Director Mark Bishop also noted that Jebsen will continue to make continued efforts in the luxury retail market and plans to open more Porsche Design stores in the major cities of China over the next two years.

At the same time, we will stay committed to meeting the needs of local consumers by making world-class brands readily available to them, as we endeavour to deliver the next 100 glorious years," says Bishop.
