An Industry First: Jebsen Motors Achieves Carbon Neutrality For 2020

6-Motors news

Jebsen Motors, one of the world’s largest Porsche dealer groups, announced today that it has achieved full carbon neutrality at all 20 of its Greater China  outlets and Shanghai headquarter office in 2020. The company was issued a carbon-neutral certificate by the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange, becoming China’s first carbon-neutral dealer group.

Following Porsche’s announcement in March 2021 that it aims to accomplish carbon neutrality by 2030, Jebsen Motors’ achievement marks an important response to the national call for energy conservation, emission reduction and the realisation of China’s ‘3060’ target (China’s carbon dioxide emissions target to reach the peak by 2030, and strive to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060).

In the first half of 2021, Jebsen Motors and Shanghai Automotive Asset Management Co., Ltd. (SAAM) jointly conducted a comprehensive carbon inventory, gathering statistics on both direct and indirect carbon emissions throughout 2020 from all Jebsen Motors’ outlets and offices, in accordance with the latest ISO14064-1:2018 regulations. Covering fuel use, emissions, energy purchases, vehicle transportation, employee travel, materials used for vehicle maintenance, waste treatment and events, the final carbon inventory report shows that Jebsen Motors’ carbon emissions in the Chinese mainland, Hong Kong and Macau totalled 11,874 tonnes of CO2e.

SAAM and Jebsen Motors worked in cooperation with the Shanghai Environment and Energy Exchange — China’s first environmental energy trading platform — to purchase standards-complaint carbon emission reductions from voluntary mitigation projects. This process effectively offsets Jebsen Motors’ total emissions of 2020, achieving carbon neutrality for the year.
Mr Joachim Eberlein, Managing Director of Jebsen Motors explains, “Jebsen Motors values the sustainable development of the economy with a focus on ecology and society as a whole. Over recent years, whenever we build or rebuild a new service outlet, we use recycled materials and modern technology that prioritise energy conservation and emissions reduction. These include solar photovoltaic panels, rainwater recycling systems, roof gardens and other tools that effectively reduce carbon emissions during construction and operation.” He continues, “Going forward, all Jebsen Motors outlets will continue to be carbon-neutral, leading green and low-carbon development within the automotive industry.”

Jebsen Motors has a new Porsche Centre currently under construction and is expected to be opened in 2022 Q1. Adhering to the commitment to green development, the new Porsche Centre will adopt many advanced energy-saving and environmental protection technologies. After its opening, the new Porsche Centre will be one of the greenest Porsche outlets in the world and will also apply for the LEED Platinum Certification, the most authoritative global green building evaluation system in the world.

Jebsen Motors first introduced Porsche to Hong Kong in 1955 and has represented the brand across the Chinese mainland for 20 years. With an enviable reputation for premium customer experience based on a total service philosophy, Jebsen Motors is now one of the world’s largest Porsche dealers, with 20 Porsche establishments, including twelve Porsche Centres, offering sales, aftersales and other services across seven major cities in Greater China.

Jebsen Group, Jebsen Motors’ parent company, is also committed to reducing the impact of its business operations on climate change. The Group has a dedicated carbon audit working group to carry out carbon management and issue annual carbon audit reports. Since 2012, Jebsen Group has achieved its carbon neutrality target by investing in environmental projects and purchasing carbon credits to offset its emissions.
